Is your garden looking a bit worse for wear? Don't worry, with a little elbow grease and the right techniques, you can bring your overgrown patio back to life in no time. In this blog post, we'll walk you through a full-day project that includes weed removal and pressure washing to transform your garden into a beautiful, inviting space once again.
Step 1: Weed Removal
The first step in reviving your garden is to tackle those pesky weeds. Start by removing all the weeds in the beds and the joints between your flagstones. This can be a labor-intensive process, but it's essential for creating a clean slate. Use a garden fork or a weeding tool to dig out the weeds, making sure to get as much of the root as possible to prevent them from coming back. Don't forget to wear gloves to protect your hands from thorns and irritants.
Step 2: Pressure Washing the Flagstones
Once the weeds are out of the way, it's time to give your flagstones a thorough cleaning. Pressure washing is an effective way to remove dirt, grime, and moss that have built up over time. Start by setting your pressure washer to a medium setting to avoid damaging the stones. Work in small sections, moving the nozzle in a sweeping motion to ensure an even clean. Be sure to wash out the joints as well, as this will make the next step much easier.
Step 3: Re-Pointing the Joints
With your flagstones sparkling clean, it's time to re-point the joints. Start by mixing for example the Joint-It Simple according to the manufacturer's instructions. Then, apply it to the joints using a trowel, pressing it firmly into the gaps. Smooth out the surface with a pointing tool for a professional finish. Allow the product to set according to the recommended drying time before walking on the patio.
